Physical fitness resources to ignite a healthier future

    https://news.va.gov/128631/physical-fitness-resources/

Staying physically fit after serving in the military is essential for Veterans. It supports overall health and mental well-being, and can help with the transition to civilian life. Regular exercise provides a sense of routine and discipline, which helps with adaptation outside the military environment. Fitness contributes to long-term health, helps manage stress and improves overall quality of life.

If you have disabilities, physical activity can be adapted to your abilities. Adaptive exercises can improve mobility, strength and mental well-being.

It’s important to consult with your primary care doctor or health team to develop a personalized fitness plan that accommodates your specific needs and challenges. Remember, your fitness journey is unique to you.

    Indio Banner Program

Honoring Hometown Veterans and Active Members of U.S Armed Forces

Military banners honoring hometown veterans and active-duty military personnel are flying high in this community bearing the names and photos of local heroes.

So far, about 10 banners are displayed, Councilmember Glenn Miller told Uken Report.

The military banner program is designed “to honor our veterans and quite a few of us,” Miller said.

The honoree must be a Veteran or active-duty member of the United States Armed Forces. The honoree or applicant must be an Indio resident. This program is free.

The program is the result of a collaborative effort of city staff and the City Council, Councilmember Waymond Fermon said.

“I’m super excited to see these banners go up in our downtown area,” Fermon told Uken Report.  “And I’m even more so proud and honored and thankful for our men and women in the military, some are active, for the service of our country and stepping forward for service. I think sometimes we go about our day and our daily routines, and we sometimes inadvertently forget that this wouldn’t be possible without the sacrifices of our service members. So, I’m super excited that we got this done.”

The concept of the banners has been out for a while, Fermon said.

“Multiple cities utilize this concept of honoring their troops,” Fermon said. “However, we were waiting for the perfect location and time to get this done. I think this is the perfect time. We believe it’s perfect for the downtown area where people could congregate and actually be educated on who are the service members, past and present, from our city and our surrounding community. It’s just an honor for our city to be able to honor our service members in this capacity.”

    Together we Serve

Togetherweserved.com enables Veterans to preserve, share their military stories for free

Togetherweserved.com (TWS), an online community with a membership of over 2.3 million U.S. Veterans, has been preserving the military service stories of its Veterans for over 20 years. TWS is seen as an important archive of living military history.

By way of a guided questionnaire and a specially designed interface called ‘Service Reflections,’ TWS makes it very easy for Veterans to record memories of key people and events from their military service. Their service story comes to life by simply answering one question at a time to which they can add accompanying photographs.

The result is a beautiful 12-inch-wide presentation of a Veteran’s entire Military Service Story, from enlistment to separation, complete with their personal Military Service Plaque. Veterans can download and save the plaque as a PDF file or share it with family and friends via a personal web address.
